PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

  • Location: Charlotte, NC (28203) – North Carolina nursing jobs
  • Facility: Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital
  • Unit: Neuro Intermediate Progressive Care Unit (19 beds)
  • Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: October 13, 2025
  • End Date: January 10, 2026
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00pm – 7:00am)
  • Hours per Week: 36 guaranteed
  • Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Coverage: 75% of holidays during assignment
  • Scrub Color: Navy
  • Parking: Free onsite parking

PCU RN Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or compact state
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU nursing experience, including neuro patient care
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Proficient in lumbar drains, stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management), and PCA pumps
  • Experience with medication gtt management (cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, IVF, nicardipine drips)
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Ability to float within region and scope of practice as needed
  • At least 1 year of overall nursing experience required

PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality patient care to post-operative neurosurgery and neuro PCU patients
  • Monitor and manage patients with craniotomy, VP shunt, deep brain stimulators, subdural hematomas, CSF leaks, seizures, post-op spine and ENT surgery, and stroke
  • Maintain RN-to-patient ratios of 1:3 for optimal clinical support
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams including CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and respond to emergencies as needed
  • Float to other healthcare facilities within the designated region as required
  • Participate in orientation and ongoing departmental training
  • Accurately document patient care and interventions using EPIC EMR
