Responsibilities:

Elwyn seeks a Forensic Licensed Clinician to p rovide forensic mental health consultation within detention settings, court consultation, and outpatient treatment for adults with mental illness and/or substance use disorders who have criminal justice involvement. The clinician will work across various clinical environments including outpatient clinics, community settings, hospitals, and detention centers. Responsibilities include assessment, counseling, case management, and legal evaluations. The position also requires integration of trauma-informed care and evidence-based clinical interventions, with a strong emphasis on recovery-oriented practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Screening, Assessment, and Individual Action Planning

  • Screens, assesses, and develops individual action plans collaboratively with individuals, utilizing a person-centered, and recovery-based framework in compliance with FHR, CARF, State/County requirements.
  • Ensures the appropriate needs assessment, information review, medical/physical history, and other pertinent information is obtained, reviewed, and evaluated.
  • Makes clinically sound observations and interventions in a timely manner, ensuring the consumer’s health and safety.

Therapeutic Support

  • Develops and maintains therapeutic relationships with persons served and maintains positive relationships with external community resources.
  • Integrates the Prism Model for effective treatment of serious and persistent mental illness into everyday practice and clinical intervention.
  • Practices a trauma-informed approach to treatment planning and service delivery.
  • Provides face-to-face crisis intervention, offering short-term support to decrease risk, manage symptoms, and maintain safety.
  • Ensures staff and individuals are provided with information related to recovery tools, techniques, and self-management strategies.
  • Offers family support, education, resources, and training related to the treatment and effects of mental illness and addiction disorders.
  • Develops, implements, and facilitates clinical groups based on the needs of the individuals enrolled.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Expresses thoughts, ideas, and opinions clearly, fluently, and concisely.
  • Ensures that information is passed on to others who need to be kept informed.
  • Listens attentively to others and responds appropriately to questions and comments.
  • Asks appropriate questions to obtain information and determine the needs of others.
  • Comprehends and follows oral instructions.

Leadership, Coaching, & Professional Development

  • Provides clinical supervision to staff.
  • Offers clinical leadership and informed opinion regarding clinical decision-making, implementation of services, and outcomes.
  • Participates in regional or organizational performance improvement initiatives.
  • Conducts training and/or educates staff/persons served in mental health recovery, symptom and stressor management, psychotropic medications, treatment planning, and skills training for co-occurring disorders.
  • Coaches staff to provide holistic services encompassing behavioral, medical, and social factors.
  • Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and clinical skills to promote an effective team environment.

Documentation

  • Produces clinical documentation/records that clearly and concisely reflect the persons served’s Strengths, Needs, Abilities, and Preferences.
  • Ensures documentation complies with State/County policies and procedures, FHR policies and procedures, and CARF standards.
  • Maintains and/or produces records, reports, and statistics necessary for program functioning and evaluation as required by FHR/QI Department or Department of Mental Health.
  • Documentation in charts is exclusively done from the perspective of a licensed clinician. 
  • Prepares and maintains timely, accurate, and complete records; secures and records information on applicable forms, logs, and computer systems.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Experience in various clinical environments including outpatient clinics, community settings, hospitals, and detention centers.
  • Skills and ability to assess, counsel, case manage, and refer to various stakeholders in the community.
  • Ability to be trained to assess capacity to proceed and conduct mental health evaluations for legal proceedings.
  • Demonstrates courteous and helpful behavior; shows appreciation and respect for consumer needs, expectations, and perspectives; reflects an attitude of customer service and responsiveness.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with peers and management; respects co-workers’ values and perspectives; contributes to team goals.
  • Ability to practice exceptional time management techniques to meet deadlines; achieves objectives systematically and efficiently.
  • Ability to use judgment and discretion with minimal supervision; applies systematic processes to define and solve problems; develops creative solutions.
  • Knowledge and practice of FHR policies.
  • Knowledge of State/County policies, regulations, and standards.
  • Attendance at required trainings.
  • Familiarity with self-help groups and peer counseling.
  • Program-specific medication certification, if applicable.
  • Knowledge of addiction treatment and resources.
