Project Controls Cost Analyst
Role summary / purpose
This role is an approximately 24-month assignment for project controls support of energy storage and solar construction project teams. The position will support cost reporting and analysis for multiple project sites across the service territory in the Carolinas and Florida.
Key responsibilities
- Review and analysis of cost estimates, including estimate basis and qualifications
- Review of existing project status as provided by project stakeholders and vendors
- Monitoring compliance with department requirements and Enterprise Policy and Standards
- Providing analysis and forecasting of project cost performance
- Assisting with forecasting project cost impacts
- Project risk quantification, analysis, and management
- Updating project cost and risk information in systems and tools
Requirements - education & experience
- Graduation from a four-year college or university in business, finance, project management, engineering, technical, or equivalent field
- Minimum of 9 years of project controls experience
- Minimum of 11 years of project controls experience in lieu of a degree
- Advanced analytical and technical cost-related project controls skills
- Expert level understanding of Project Controls methodologies and discipline
- Proven and successful experience working with multi-million dollar or high-risk projects
- Experience working in a PMO environment, on a project controls team, or in a project management working environment
Required skills
- Various estimating techniques for both cost and schedule
- Multiple cost management and control practices
- Project Risk Management best practices
- Review and analysis of contractor and vendor performance
- Advanced to expert level proficiency in Excel
- Ability to pick up and use unfamiliar software
- Ability to work with large data files
Nice-to-have / preferred skills
- Master's degree in business, finance, project management, or equivalent
- PMI or AACE certification (PMP, CAPM, PMI-SP, AACE-CCC, AACE-PSP, AACE-CEP, AACE-EVP, or equivalent)
- Proficiency with project management and project controls concepts and analytics
- Experience evaluating vendor change orders
- Demonstrated expertise with software such as MS Project, MS Office Suite, Business Objects, Prolog, Passport, Visio, Access, Powerplant, Maximo or EAM, PeopleSoft, and risk management tools
- Ability to lead complex assignments
- Exceptional communication skills
- Exposure to energy-related projects
- Prior utility industry experience
Employment details - type, location, hours
Location: Charlotte, NC with multiple sites across the Carolinas and Florida service area
Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, hybrid with travel to sites in North and South Carolina 3 days per week
Duration: Approximately 24 months
Travel: Personal vehicle required for site visits
Per Diem: Yes, if eligible
Physical requirements: No physical labor required. PPE (hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, safety shoes) required during site visits only.
