More About the Role:

This position will work mostly with our facilities development & maintenance team in the Solid Waste Division but may be assigned to any equivalent role within the program depending on need. This role will require basic mechanical and carpentry skills, with a focus on heavy equipment operation of backhoes, hydraulic excavators, and similar equipment. This position does require at minimum, a Class B CDL. The incumbent may operate a variety of heavy equipment such as excavators, wheel loaders, bulldozers, mini excavators, dump trucks, scissor lifts, telehandlers, forklifts, as well as ride on rollers and walk behind tamps/rollers. The incumbent must have a basic understanding of grading and earth work as well as the ability to shoot, grade, and operate a laser at level efficiency. Duties will also include operating a paint sprayer, line stripping sprayer and knowledge of paint types. This role will require some non-typical work hours on an occasional basis and that will include occasional weekends, holiday and inclement weather working hours.

Position Summary
Performs responsible and skilled work engaging in solid waste equipment operation. This position, under
minimal supervision, is responsible for operating technically complex equipment and ensuring safety
procedures are followed during solid waste operations. This position is responsible for waste screening
activities, customer service interaction and may train others within this job series.


Essential Functions
Perform load inspections on waste materials such as Yard Debris, Construction and Demolition
Debris and monitors incoming loads for unacceptable materials
Operate a variety of equipment in the processing, collection and disposal of recyclables, garbage,
trash, and/or refuse. This includes large tub-grinders, angle-blade bulldozers, front-loaders and
wheel loader vehicles.
Perform complex maintenance and related care of Diesel equipment used in solid waste
operations
Keep work area clean and free of debris to prevent damage to incoming vehicles
Drive semi-tractor trailers hauling materials and heavy equipment (walking floor trailers and lowboy trailers)
Assist with cleaning and maintenance of trucks and tools
Load and unloads heavy equipment from trucks and vehicles.
Monitor the safety of job sites and co-workers
Operate solid waste vehicles that require a CDL
Work Environment may vary based on assigned duties

Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of six years of experience.


Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: Yes


Licenses and Certifications
Requires County Driving Privileges
Depending on the area of assignment, may require a Class A or B CDL with one or more of the
following endorsements, H(Hazardous Materials), N(Tank Vehicle), P (Passenger Transport), S
(School Bus/Passenger Transport), T (Double/Triples), or X (Tanker and hazardous Materials).
Depending upon the area of assignment, may require a Waste Management Operators Certificate
(Landfill) or Compost Facility Operators Certificate (Mulch Processing) or Transfer Station
Operators Certificate, as required by State regulations and facility permit requirements.


Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in the waste management field and be familiar with the nomenclature of
terms, job hazards, and standard limitations of material acceptance.

Equipment used in solid waste operations maintenance, and construction

Use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities
Thorough knowledge of state traffic laws and regulations
Working knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance
Working knowledge of computers

Ability to interpret written plans and permit requirements of solid waste facilities
Ability to fill our daily forms in a paper or electronic format for fuel, pre/post trip of vehicles and
other needs.
Ability to train others in lower classes on the safe operation of heavy equipment

Ability to repair and diagnose equipment
Skilled with using tools and related equipment
Skill in the operation of a variety of heavy construction equipment
