Working Location
This role involves work at various utility-scale solar facilities across multiple US locations (including Calexico, CA; Bakersfield, CA; Alpaugh, CA; Las Vegas, NV; Alamosa, CO; Lakeland, FL; North Carolina; Utah; and Lindsay, Ontario). Work is primarily outdoors and involves exposure to heat, cold, sun, and potential biological hazards (such as bees, spiders, and snakes).

Key Responsibilities
- Monitor construction activities to ensure design drawings, specifications, and contracts are followed and work progresses according to schedule and within budget.
- Provide inspection of all work in place to verify conformance with contract drawings, specifications, regulatory requirements, and applicable codes.
- Ensure contractor compliance with internal Health, Safety, Security & Environmental (HSS&E) policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve contractor daily HSS&E job plans prior to the start of work.
- Monitor high and medium-risk work, critical tasks, and site conditions.
- Conduct weekly safe work observations of contractor employees performing high or medium-risk tasks.
- Provide immediate feedback to contractor supervisors and management regarding any HSS&E violations.
- Initiate work stoppage if high or medium-risk hazards are not controlled.
- Prepare job planning documentation in collaboration with project stakeholders.
- Maintain a log of employee skills, training, and designations on site for review.
- Maintain a project field binder (or electronic binder) for all Level 1 and 2 projects.
- Facilitate HSS&E meetings with contractor crews on site.
- Prepare daily construction reports (DCR) documenting activities, issues, and observations.
- Establish effective working relationships with Project Managers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct contractor post-work evaluations covering health and safety, environmental, technical, project management, and financial performance.
Requirements
- Field experience related to hazards associated with utility-scale solar sites, including electrical hazards (<230Kv AC and <1000 v DC) and use of heavy equipment (excavators, hydro-vac units).
- Experience with electrical safety work procedures relevant to solar facilities.
- Training in occupational health, safety, security, and environmental regulations applicable to assigned projects.
- Knowledge of work procedures and hazard control for life and limb-threatening tasks.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Training Requirements
- Initial contractor HSS&E management training (with internal HSS&E team).
- Job planning training.
- Authorization to approve daily job plans.
- Hazard recognition training.
- Minimum one week of on-the-job training with an experienced contractor monitor or project manager.
Performance Evaluation
Performance is assessed by the Project Manager at the conclusion of each project, based on:
- Daily job plans
- HSS&E procedures
- Orientations
- Work observations
- Event reporting
- Public safety and security
- Report quality
Additional Information
- This position requires regular interaction with contractors, subcontractors, and internal employees.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team is essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in Spanish is a plus.
