Railcar Mechanical Assembly Technician I

Join our world-class passenger railcar manufacturing hub in Lexington, NC. As part of the Rolling Stock Division, the market leader in North America for passenger coaches, locomotives, and light rail vehicles, you’ll help assemble best-in-class trains for cities across the continent.
Day in the life
As a Mechanical Assembly Technician I on our final assembly line, your evening begins on the shop floor at our Lexington facility. You’ll move between workstations to:
- Build and fit-out coach modules such as roofs, cable harnesses, mounted parts, electrical racks and panels, including air supply racks and piping assemblies.
- Apply adhesives; align and secure floor panels; set windows and install door assemblies.
- Install interior mechanical elements: insulation, sidewall panels, seating, and luggage racks.
- Route and connect electrical wiring harnesses to subassemblies and final termination points.
- Disassemble, modify, rework, refurbish, and reassemble components as production requires.
- Work from production blueprints, wiring diagrams, parts and wire lists, sketches, and verbal instructions to produce electrical or electro-mechanical subassemblies.
- Use fine motor skills for small-part assembly that demands excellent dexterity.
Schedule
Monday–Thursday, 4:00pm–5:30am.
What you bring
- High school diploma or state-recognized GED, or equivalent experience in manufacturing or related fields (e.g., electrical panel assembly, construction, automotive, or electrical service).
- Basic written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and parts lists is a plus.
Physical demands
- Frequent walking; reaching; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Frequent climbing of stairs, steps, and ladders.
- Regular work on elevated platforms and overhead tasks.
- Occasional lifting and moving up to 40 pounds.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception with the ability to focus.

Compensation and benefits
The hourly rate for this position in Lexington, NC is $17.00 – $20.91. The hourly rate may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
