Position Summary:

The Mobility Technician is responsible for assisting clinical staff and members of the interprofessional healthcare team as assigned under the direct supervision of clinical staff within inpatient setting. This position performs delegated activities that include but are not limited to patient mobility and functional activities transporting patients to and from treatment areas and a variety of basic clerical functions. The Mobility Technician provides possesses the ability to exercise safe judgement and delivers exceptional patient care per guidelines established by the department to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service.

Essential Functions:

Works collaboratively with the department nursing staff and physicians providing assistance to patients based on previously identified needs in assisting in the patient mobility.

Organizes materials and supplies in the appropriate work areas prior to patient arrival including but not limited to cleaning/disinfecting gathering equipment.

Assists with equipment storage and supply procurement keeping hallways and room egress free of clutter.

Assists with responding to patient falls.

Role models behaviors and skills through peer-to-peer accountability towards improving department score for patient satisfaction on unit-based scorecard i.e. bedside shift handoff/report.

Supports initiatives to prevent conditions such as pressure injuries patient falls and hospital-acquired infections by following infection control processes and conducting hand hygiene audits.

Required Sk ills:

  • Requires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure continuity of care and appropriateness of nursing coverage to the patients.

Education/ Certification

  • : High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience: One year Patient Care Assistant. Nursing Assistant work experience in an acute care hospital long-term acute care hospital or equivalent setting OR Six months therapy experience e.g. PT/OT/Rehab Tech OR Nursing student who has completed first clinical rotation.
