Field Superintendent
Job Summary:
Responsible for construction field installation activities with an emphasis on labor productivity, quality, and timely installations, and employee morale. This requires close coordination with project and division managers. Position is responsible for jobsite safety. Directs activities of workers concerned with construction by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages 8 to 10 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 1 to 5 employees in the Construction.
- Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Be able to attend Accounting Job Cost Review meetings
- Manage multiple Foreman/Assistant Superintendents and communicate clear goals that need to be met.
- Consistently stay 2/3 weeks ahead of the job and manage material and manpower.
- Study specifications to plan construction procedures based on starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction.
- Ensure that an adequate field workforce is maintained on each project through input from project managers and/or division managers.
- Monitor field labor productivity to meet job cost budget.
- Monitor and assist in scheduling fabrication shop activities, including ship dates and accuracy of shipments.
- Coordinate project and material need to maintain piping and sheet metal field labor productivity.
- Provide "hands-on" assistance at the jobsite for field crews to ensure maximum productivity of high-quantity field labor tasks.
- Assist on-site field mechanics with the development of work sequences and material needs.
- Provide "hands-on" assistance at the jobsite with installing all equipment, specifically boilers, chillers, pumps, air handling devices, fans, and other critical equipment.
- Assist in developing new field mechanics through on-site and classroom training.
- Assist in troubleshooting and service calls on installed systems when required.
- Monitor equipment rentals for optimum use.
- Assist project manager and field mechanics in establishing room and board rates, and travel arrangements, if required; with management assistance, ensure vehicle expense budget is met.
- Schedule, monitor, and correct, as needed, subcontractor progress and performance.
- Prepare written evaluations for all field personnel.
- Make salary adjustment recommendations to the division manager for review.
- Review and approve weekly field time sheets.
- Hire and terminate field employees as required.
- Procure tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- Six months to one year of related experience and/or training.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Can speak to superiors, clients, and fellow employees as a leader. Leads by example.
- Can evaluate and recommend solutions when issues arise.
- Ability to come up with new ideas to improve performance and production.
- Has the skills to commend employees on a job well done and reprimand as required.
- Able to develop and coach in Stratus, ACC, Bluebeam, Procore, Egnyte, Navisworks
- Fluent in understanding of job cost through PM report.
- Coaching and developing employees must be the top priority
- Superintendent has in-depth knowledge and experience in the installation of all Mechanical/ Plumbing systems.
- Ability to read and interpret documents.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exist.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
