Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Animal Care Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team , located in Durham, NC .

As the Animal Care Technician II , you will review, maintain, monitor and document the health, records, post-operative care and physical environment within the customer's varied animal care environments.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific areas.
• Support research staff in anesthesia induction, monitoring, pre-op and post-op care and documentation in GLP format of all procedures and care.
• Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
• Maintain accurate records of animal health, and housing or support areas as required by Institute and facility.
• Perform pen/run daily cleaning of swine housing rooms as described in customer SOPs.
• Receipt, inspection, identification, transportation and housing of all incoming animals under direct supervision.
• Assist in the disposal of animal carcasses and maintenance of incinerator and all relevant documentation following established procedures.
• Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas including room or facility personnel entry; personnel protective equipment use, spraying in all equipment and materials into controlled areas.
• Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.
• Maintain and stock all necropsy and procedure rooms.
• Perform euthanasia of animals, as directed.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Animal Care Technician II position:

• High school diploma or general education degree required
• Minimum of two years of laboratory animal research experience.
• AALAS certification at the ALAT level required.

The pay range for this position is $26 to $28 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to skills, certifications, and location.
