Part-Time Family Assistant in Chapel Hill, NC for a Family of Five

Charlotte’s Best Nanny Agency is assisting a family in Chapel Hill, NC, in finding a Part-Time Family Assistant for their household, which consists of two parents and three children (ages 4, 9, and 10 years old). The Family Assistant would typically be needed Monday - Friday, 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm, with flexibility to occasionally stay late and do overnight care.

The best Family Assistant for this family would be kind, reliable, organized, and engaging, with experience caring for multiple children. Each afternoon, the Family Assistant will be responsible for caring for the children after school, managing busy afternoon schedules, and helping keep the household running smoothly. The older children arrive home by bus at 2:40 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., and the 4-year-old will need to be picked up from preschool. Once everyone is home, the Family Assistant will prepare and serve an after-school snack.

Afternoon activities typically begin around 4:30 p.m., and the Family Assistant will assist with transportation to and from activities. This may include taking the two older children to their commitments while spending time with the younger child, often at a nearby park, during activity windows.

The children’s activities include gymnastics for the 9-year-old and 4-year-old (held at the same time), scouting, mountain biking, music lessons, and various seasonal programs for the 10-year-old. On days without scheduled activities, the children enjoy playing within the neighborhood, staying active, and participating in age-appropriate outings. Light homework support is a plus, though homework demands are minimal.

The family is looking for a Family Assistant who can commit long-term and become a trusted, extended member of the family over time.

Childcare Responsibilities Include:

• Meeting the daily scheduling needs of the children

• Engaging with the children on an age-appropriate level

• Transporting the children home from school and to and from activities

• Keeping the children active and engaged in age-appropriate activities both inside and outside the home

• Doing hands-on learning activities with the children

Household Duties Include (Children are priority):

• Children’s laundry and changing children’s sheets weekly

• Family meal planning and basic meal prep

• Unloading/loading the dishwasher

• Picking up after the Family Assistant and the child throughout the day

• Grocery Shopping

• Running general errands

Pets: The family has a small dog, and the Family Assistant will be asked to let him in and out throughout the day.

Qualifications:

• Have at least 3 years of professional Family Assistant experience

• Have a college degree or equivalent experience

• Have a professional resume

• Fill out a complete online application

• Pass a national background check, including a driving record check

• Have a valid driver’s license

• Have safe and reliable transportation

• Have a minimum of three professional references

• Be non-smoking/vaping

• Must be able to swim, as the family has a neighborhood pool

• CPR and First Aid Certified

• Family Assistant should be fluent in English; Mandarin would be a plus

• The COVID-19 vaccine and the annual Flu Vaccine are preferred but not required.

Start Date, Salary, and Benefits:

• Legal pay is offered at $28 an hour, negotiable depending on experience
