About the OpportunityOur client is a leading employee-owned manufacturer of industrial process cooling and refrigeration systems serving customers across a wide range of industries throughout North America and globally. They provide engineered solutions from design and manufacturing through installation, commissioning, and ongoing field service support.
The Field Automation Technician joins a highly skilled service team supporting customers in industrial environments such as food processing facilities, bagged ice plants, seafood processing facilities, manufacturing operations, and other industrial sites. This position is ideal for an automation professional who enjoys travel, troubleshooting complex systems, and delivering outstanding customer support.
Job SummaryThe Field Automation Technician I is responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and supporting industrial automation and control systems at customer locations. This role requires approximately 80% nationwide travel and the ability to work independently while serving as the primary technical representative at customer sites.
Key Responsibilities- Travel up to 80% to customer locations throughout the United States.
- Simulate, test, troubleshoot, and debug industrial control systems both on-site and remotely.
- Assist with the installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair automation and electrical control systems in field environments.
- Program and configure Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Coordinate with electricians and project teams during equipment installation and startup.
- Conduct pre-installation kickoff meetings and support project execution.
- Provide technical support by phone and on-site for equipment startup and troubleshooting.
- Train customers and operators on the safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Complete accurate service reports and documentation following each service visit.
- Maintain professional customer relationships while representing the company in the field.
- 3–5 years of experience in industrial automation, controls, electrical maintenance, or field service.
- Associate degree or technical training preferred.
- Proficiency with Rockwell Automation software, including RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View ME, and RSLinx.
- Familiarity with Mitsubishi PLC and HMI hardware and software.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi automation platforms.
- Experience programming and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Knowledge of multiphase electrical circuits.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Relocation is not required. Candidates may reside anywhere in the U.S. provided they are located near a major airport and are willing to travel extensively.
Physical Requirements- Lift up to 25 pounds multiple times per day.
- Stand and work on your feet for up to 10 hours per day, with occasional extended shifts.
- Drive for extended periods, including up to 10 hours in a day when required.
