Med/Surg RN Job Details

• Job Title: Locum Tenens Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN)
• Location: Wilmington, NC 28401 (North Carolina nursing jobs)
• Unit: Ortho Trauma/General Surgery
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (option to extend up to 26 weeks)
• Shift: Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
• Weekly Hours: 36 (option for 48 hours/week)
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1700-$1750
• Patient Ratio: 1:6-7
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Float: May float to similar units or alternate care locations
• Orientation: 12-hour unit orientation, 16-hour organizational education
• Scrubs: Navy

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active RN license (North Carolina or Compact State)
• BLS certification (Basic Life Support)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg nursing experience within the last 5 years
• Epic EMR documentation experience required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Proficient in heparin drips, PCA management, colostomy care, feeding tube care, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV starts, dysrhythmia management, O2 protocol, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions/PPE, traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), nasal cannula, oral suctioning, tracheostomy management, wound care
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
• First-time travel nurses accepted

Preferred RN Qualifications

• ACLS certification (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation, pre/post hemodialysis management, drip management, CVA, neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult patients with orthopedic trauma, neurological trauma, and general surgery needs
• Administer medications, blood products, and manage lines and drains
• Accurately document patient care using Epic EMR
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, physical therapy, respiratory, pharmacy)
• Float to similar units or alternate care locations as needed
• Participate in Storm Team/Hurricane Team response during disasters
• Maintain infection control, isolation precautions, and PPE compliance
• Provide patient and family education and compassionate support
