Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Hospice Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 2 Years Required License: NC or Compact License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Home Health/Hospice and Skilled Nursing Experience End of Life Care Skills Medication Administration and Pain Management Skills Professional Knowledge and Skills Symptom Assessment and Management Skills Description: RTO after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO in the unit could possibly turn into a cancel and DNR. Locals are approved at travel rates. Traveler experience: First-time travelers will be accepted. Work setting skills required include Home Health/Hospice and Skilled Nursing. End-of-life care skills required include after treatment survivorship and cultural awareness. Medication administration and pain management skills required: WHO analgesic ladder, adjuvant therapy, breakthrough dosing, calculation of pediatric dosages, medication tolerance, pain assessment, pharmacologic and non-pharmacological pain interventions, proper disposal of medications, types of pain (somatic, visceral, neuropathic), and treatment, usage of pain scales (verbal and nonverbal). Professional knowledge and skills required: Goal setting with patient and family, intake assessment and interview, patient and family education and support, positioning, preventive shearing, and pressure ulcer management. Symptom assessment and management skills required: Altered mental status, anorexia and cachexia, aphasia, constipation and diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, and pressure ulcer staging. The average daily census is 63 with 5 visits per day. Call requirements include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8 PM to 8 AM with other RNs in the department. A designated RN covers weeknight call Monday through Thursday; volunteers may cover during PTO. Nurse triage service screens incoming calls according to protocols and will contact nurses if a visit is needed. Mileage will be paid at the IRS standard rate. Patient diagnoses primarily include those with six months or less to live, primarily geriatric. Nurses will often work two evening shifts on call from 8 PM to 8 AM every 4-5 weeks to cover patient PRN and death visit needs. There will be no float requirement for this position. Weekend requirement includes on-call rotation. Positions require flexibility for potential floating within or near the facility as per job description.
