Sterilization Technician

Job Summary
Responsible for processing and sterilization of clinical instruments.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepares and sterilizes instruments and treatment rooms.
- Collects, cleans, disinfects and sterilizes instruments after procedures according to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines.
- Operates autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners and handpiece cleaners according to manufacturer instructions and safety protocols.
- Inspects instruments for cleanliness, damage or wear, reports issues and replaces instruments as necessary.
- Performs deep cleaning of operatories beyond daily maintenance.
- Follows the organization’s infection control protocols.
- Provides maintenance, documentation and support services.
- Performs biological monitoring.
- Maintains autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners and handpiece cleaners according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- Maintains instrument processing, sterilization, biological monitoring and equipment maintenance logs.
- Organizes and stocks sterilized instruments in appropriate storage areas.
- Monitors and maintains sterilization supplies and inventory.
- Coordinates with the dental team to ensure efficient workflow.
- Communicates supply needs to the Practice Manager.
- Assists in maintaining compliance with infection control audits.
- Supports dental team through assistance with clinical and administrative tasks as assigned by the Practice Manager.
Qualifications and Skills
Possesses a basic level of written and verbal communication skills, computational and computer skills and mathematical knowledge typically acquired through completion of a high school program. Possesses specific knowledge of sterilization and infection control processes and practices. Previous experience in sterilization processes preferred.Recommended Jobs
