In Lexington, NC, our Rolling Stock Division produces passenger coaches, locomotives, and light rail vehicles for North America.

What this role is about

As a Railcar Coatings Technician, you’ll be part of the team that transforms carbon and stainless steel car bodies into finished, passenger-ready vehicles. Safety, precision, and quality are your guideposts as you bring each car shell to a flawless finish.

A day in the life

• Begin with safety prep and job review; set up equipment and materials for the day’s assignments.
• Prepare vehicle exteriors and interiors: hand, block, and mechanical sanding to achieve a uniform surface.
• Meticulously mask and clean surfaces to ensure optimal adhesion.
• Apply undercoats and primers to specification; follow with professional topcoat application on light rail vehicles.
• Perform routine upkeep on painting tools and spray equipment.
• Pitch in to support fellow painters and cross-functional teammates as needed.

What you’ll bring

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience in a manufacturing or similar materials environment (painting/coatings).
• 1+ year of industrial painting experience in manufacturing or related settings.
• Basic English proficiency; able to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, contracted services, and colleagues.
• Comfort reading and understanding simple work instructions, short memos, and technical documentation.
• Math skills: add/subtract/multiply/divide with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; calculate rates/ratios/percentages; interpret bar graphs.

Physical demands

• Frequent walking; reaching; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Regular climbing of stairs, steps, and ladders.
• Work from elevated platforms as required.
• Comfort with overhead work.
• Lift/move up to 40 lbs.

Compensation and benefits details

Location: Lexington, NC

Base rate range: $16.00/hr - $19.68/hr. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
