Medical Office Assistant (Part Time)

What You'll Be Doing Wake County Health and Human Services is currently seeking a Part Time Medical Office Assistant to join the WIC Team! Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a special supplemental nutrition program offered throughout Wake County. The WIC program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture. WIC provides individualized nutrition counseling and group nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, referrals for health care and other services and healthy food benefits to those in need. We currently recruiting for a part time (20 hours/week) Medical Office Assistant for the WIC Lab. The WIC Lab staff obtain clients' required height and weight measures and biochemical health information. This information is used for providing health and nutrition evaluation and education for the NC WIC program. WIC Lab staff are expected to work in any of the current and future WIC office locations in Wake County. Essential Functions Include: - Use standardized weighing and measuring instruments and procedures to weigh and measure all current WIC participants, applicants, and applicable parents per WIC Program Manual policy guidelines.
- Use the approved analyzer and standardized procedures to perform the required hemoglobin blood test for anemia and Blood Lead per WIC Program guidelines.
- Enter obtained measures and tests results in the electronic WIC Medical record and plotting on growth charts as needed.
- Document and maintain supplies for the WIC Lab work stations. Clean and sanitize the WIC Lab and equipment. Alert supervisors to any malfunctioning lab equipment.
- Document and maintain adequate inventory of supplies by coordinating supply needs with co-workers.
- Work close with other WIC program staff to ensure clients are seen in a timely manner and provide information to other staff as needed for the care of the family.
- Answer incoming calls and inquiries regarding lab results.
- Complete necessary daily lab reports and cleaning logs.
- Assist with special projects and duties as requested.
- Office hours - Mon-Thurs 8:00 am-7:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am-5:15 pm, Saturday 8:00 am-2:00 pm. Staff works 1 or 2 evenings per week and 1 or 2 Saturdays per month with one day off during the week.
In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training. The Basics (Required Education and Experience) High School Diploma or GED Experience working with children and infants Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) Experience working with WIC program Experience working with children and infants Proficient in Microsoft Excel Fluency in English is required -basic Spanish language skills preferred Previous experience working in a fast paced environment How Will We Know You're 'The One'?
