Accounts Receivable & Collections Specialist Location: Charlotte, NC Industry: Freight Transportation & Logistics

The Role We are looking for a detailed-oriented Accounts Receivable & Collections Specialist to manage a dedicated portfolio of customer accounts. In this role, you won’t just ask for payments; you will be a problem-solver who researches root causes, resolves billing discrepancies, and partners with our sales and customer service teams to improve cash flow and reduce financial risk.

What You’ll Do

• Portfolio Management: Monitor assigned accounts daily, send statements, and establish professional, collaborative relationships with customers.

• Collections & Negotiation: Resolve outstanding invoices and delinquent accounts by negotiating payment terms consistent with company policy.

• Dispute Resolution: Research billing inaccuracies, audit data against contracts, and collaborate with internal partners to correct disputed invoices.

• Analysis & Reporting: Audit aging reports and track collection efforts. Identify process deficiencies and recommend improvements to prevent future payment delays.

• Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of all collection activity, refunds, write-offs, and offsets within the AR system.

What You’ll Need

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

• Experience: 1+ year of experience in freight transportation, logistics, or accounting.

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel (ability to use formulas and analyze large data sets).

• Communication: Excellent negotiation skills and professional phone etiquette. You must be able to write clearly and adapt your communication style to different audiences.

• Analytical Mindset: An aptitude for math and the ability to interpret contracts to determine why a payment issue occurred.

salary: $21.62 - $21.63 per hour

Responsibilities

§ Review assigned customer accounts, sending statements to customers, establish collaborate communication.

§ Responsible for the resolution and management of outstanding invoices and delinquent accounts. Works directly with customers to negotiate payment terms consistent with company practices. Interacts with sales support, customer service, and accounts receivable in reconciling accounts. Serves as the escalation point for customer payment disputes and makes recommendations for write-offs, account adjustments and reconciliation. Audits and analyzes aging reports, tracking collection efforts and may initiate outside collection approach for unresolved delinquent accounts.

§ Resolve and collect overdue account balances and payment discrepancies through research, communication and follow up with customers and/or sales teams.

§ Partner with leadership to make recommendations on account management strategies.

§ Research invoices for billing accuracy; audit and collaborate with internal business partners to correct disputed invoices.
