Automation Engineer

Technical Source is seeking a motivated Automation Engineer with 1–3 years of experience to support a pharmaceutical manufacturing client in Raleigh, NC. This role will focus on PLC programming, troubleshooting, and automation support within a regulated production environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer looking to grow within the life sciences industry while working on critical manufacturing systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day automation support for pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment and processes

• Program, troubleshoot, and modify Allen Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, etc.)

• Support commissioning, qualification, and validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ)

• Diagnose and resolve controls and instrumentation issues to minimize downtime

• Collaborate with maintenance, validation, quality, and manufacturing teams

• Maintain documentation in compliance with GMP and FDA regulations

• Assist with continuous improvement and system optimization initiatives

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field

• 1–3 years of hands-on experience with Allen Bradley PLCs in a manufacturing environment

• Experience within pharmaceutical, biotech, or other GMP-regulated industries preferred

• Familiarity with HMI/SCADA systems

• Understanding of cGMP documentation and validation processes is a plus

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred Experience

• Experience with batch processes and automated production systems

• Exposure to commissioning and startup support

• Knowledge of industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet)

• Experience working in cleanroom environments
