Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring at least 18 months of PCU experience and the ability to float across a regional healthcare system on night shifts.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a 58-licensed-bed hospital, with 33 PCU beds
- Combination PCU and Med-Surg unit serving patients with diagnoses such as stroke R/O, pneumonia, cellulitis, failure to thrive (FTT), altered mental status (AMS), chest pain R/O, atrial fibrillation, COPD, and more
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5–1:6; CNA support at 1:8–1:12
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 36 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- Required to float within scope of practice across Region 3 facilities: Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) — do not apply if not agreeable to this requirement
- Floating to a nearby sister facility (approximately 15–20 minutes away) may occur fairly regularly; advance notice is typically provided
- Low census call is possible; nights may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; telemetry monitoring: Philips
- Telemetry is monitored both at the nurses' station and in a central monitoring bunker at the sister facility
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active RN license — NC or compact license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 18 months of PCU experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in: tracheostomy care, cardiac drip management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, blood product administration, wound care/dressing changes, and central line management
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- Department support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC (primarily on days), a charge nurse (typically without a patient assignment), phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, a resource nurse (as staffing allows), RT available 24/7, hospitalist coverage 24/7 (mix of in-person and virtual), and telemetry monitoring technicians
- Orientation includes facility-level onboarding (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any hours missed due to RTO may need to be made up by extending the contract
- Schedule is posted in 6-week cycles
