MESDA Tour Guide
SUMMARY
The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) Guide Level 2 is a non-exempt position responsible for ensuring high quality customer service to visitors of Old Salem Museums and Gardens. Duties include communicating MEDSDA's mission to educate the public about Southern decorative arts by effectively interpreting MESDA's exhibition galleries safely and positively.
The mission of the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) is to stimulate a greater awareness, appreciation and knowledge of the decorative arts created and used in Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky from the seventeenth century through 1861 using programs of collection, research, publication education, and exhibition.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Customer Services & Public Engagement:
Ensure customer satisfaction and provide professional customer support.
Responsible for the processing of ticket sales.
Assists in creating and maintaining customer accounts, making ticket sales deposits, and entering data into a computerized ticket system.
Maintain retail/sales floor stocked with merchandise.
Assisting with display of merchandise or organizing of merchandise.
Orient all visitors to Old Salem by explaining maps, historic buildings, restaurants, special programming.
Communicating ticketing opportunities and promotions to visitors.
Promote OSMG membership program
Answers telephone calls, provides information on events, assists patrons with information.
Maintain good relationships with co-workers in other departments and have open lines of communication to improve the quality of the visitor experience.
Assist with guiding and training of new staff, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
General Administrative Functions:
Processing checks, cash and or credit card transactions.
Managing Financial transaction and balancing drawers.
Handling cash and credit card transactions efficiently with discretion, great attention to detail and maintaining the security of confidential information.
Preparing financial transaction documents.
As needed deliver deposits to the Accounting Department.
Additional Duties
Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
Participate in interpreted, public engagement events in properly attired costume or apron, as needed.
Attend staff meetings and ongoing training as assigned.
Communicates any problem/concern of the department to director promptly.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the department director.
WHAT YOU NEED:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of two years of related experience.
Multilingual preferred.
Computer literacy and proficiency of Microsoft Office (i.e., Power Point, Excel, Word) required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and work with continual interruption.
Physical Demands:
Work is usually sedentary, but may require extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, lifting and or bending.
Ability to lift 10 lbs.
The work is mostly performed in a secure setting.
Exposed to moderate to high noise in an open setting.
