Job Summary
The Mechanical & Plumbing Construction Division – Sr. Mechanical Estimator - conducts all work in accordance with company policies, procedures, and programs. The Sr. Mechanical Estimator will directly report to the SE&M Mechanical Division Mechanical Estimating Manager. The Sr. Mechanical Estimator will be expected to be proficient and perform the following duties:
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems, including HVAC, mechanical piping, plumbing, and process piping based on project drawings, specifications, and other request for proposal information provided by customers
- Attend pre-bid conferences as necessary
- Coordinate with the Estimating Manager to ensure we are pursuing the correct opportunities that fit with our current needs, future needs, and resource scheduling
- Develop comprehensive bid proposals, ensuring alignment with client requirements and project scope.
- Analyze material takeoffs, labor requirements, and equipment costs to ensure cost-effective solutions.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to refine estimates and address project-specific challenges.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities in project estimates and provide recommendations to mitigate cost overruns.
- Work in Trimble & Quote Express estimating software to streamline the estimating process and maintain accurate records.
- Stay informed on industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, assumptions, and supporting documentation for future reference and audits.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems, materials, and industrial standards
- Work closely with SE&M Electrical & Service Departments to coordinate estimates on combined pursuits
- Lead estimate turnover meetings to ensure a smooth transition to the assigned operations project team.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coordinators, and project managers regarding project status, material needs, and any issues encountered
- Perform material buyouts and submittal preparation of awarded projects, when needed
- Adhere to all safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following OSHA guidelines
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5-7+ years of experience in mechanical estimating for industrial, pharmaceutical, and heavy commercial MEP projects
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Proficiency in Trimble & Quote Soft estimating software(s)
- Strong understanding of NC Mechanical & Plumbing Codes and industry standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present estimates and collaborate with teams
- Detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple estimating projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Work Conditions
- Work Location(s): The Sr. Mechanical Estimator will primarily work out of the SE&M Constructors, Inc. Raleigh Office. Position will require occasional travel to the Elm City, NC office for meetings or other work-related matters.
- Work Week – The normal work week will be Monday through Friday 7:00am–5:30pm
- Follow all rules, protocols and procedures set forth by the Company, which may be in the form of handbooks, directives, memorandums, meetings, or other means as deemed appropriate by the Company.

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: Competitive Pay – Varies Depending on Experience Level

- 401K Retirement Plan: SE&M provides a retirement plan to all eligible employees. The employee is encouraged to participate in this plan by using payroll deductions. Eligibility requires the employee to be 18 years of age and participation begins on the first day of employment. Company matches $.50 per dollar up to the first 6% of employee contribution (3% match).
- Holidays/Personal Time Off/Vacation/Sick Days: You will be paid ten (10) paid days off for vacation and five (5) sick days. Sick days are for the employee only and not family.
- Mobile Phone: Employee will be issued a Company-owned mobile phone. Device is intended for business use only.
- Computer: Employee will be issued a Company-owned computer for business purposes. Laptop/tablet computers may be enabled for remote VPN access as deemed necessary.
- Credit-Card – Employee will be provided with a Company credit card. The credit card is for business related use only. All charges are to be documented in accordance with Company standards.
