Controller
Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing organization in the Charlotte area, for an experienced Controller to lead their accounting function. This is a high-visibility role for a hands-on finance leader who wants to shape financial strategy, strengthen internal controls, and partner directly with executive leadership on the company's continued growth.
Day to day, you will oversee the monthly close, manage a small team of accounting professionals, and serve as the go-to person for financial accuracy and integrity across the organization. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-moving, hybrid environment, enjoys mentoring staff, and is equally comfortable diving into the details of a reconciliation and presenting financial results to senior leadership.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage and mentor a team of staff and senior accountants
- Design, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in partnership with department leaders
- Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury functions
- Partner with the CFO on financial strategy and business decision support
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
- Evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and reporting tools
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- 8 or more years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior experience managing or leading an accounting team
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
- Proven track record overseeing audits and internal controls
- Excellent communication skills with ability to present to executive leadership
- High attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving skills
