Worship Director

Mission Church in Locust, NC, is looking for a Worship Director who’s passionate about leading people to encounter God through music. We’re looking for someone who can lead a gifted team of musicians and vocalists while partnering with our staff to help our church family worship and follow Jesus.

About the Church
Founded in 1883, Mission Church has been a part of the Locust, NC, community for over 140 years. With an average attendance of 400, we exist to help people become believers, grow as followers, and rise as leaders. At Mission, you’ll find modern worship, a fun and growing kids and student ministry, and groups where real life happens together. Our church staff enjoys collaborating, serving, and leading together.

About the Community
Locust is a rural but fast-growing area with great schools, affordable living, and an easy drive to Charlotte. These factors have brought a wave of new people into our community, with over 1,000 new homes being built within 10 miles of our church over the next several years. Mission Church began a building campaign in March of 2026 to address immediate needs and ensure we’re ready to welcome all the new people moving into our community. Whether it’s a movie night, a service project, or just showing up for our community, we want Locust to know that Mission Church is here and that we love our community. As our church grows, we’re excited for our worship ministry to grow with it.

About the Opportunity
Position Summary: The Worship Director is responsible for leading the worship ministry of Mission Church. Responsibilities include planning Sunday services with the pastoral staff, developing musicians and vocalists, scheduling volunteers, and overseeing the creative media and communications coordinators to manage the church’s tech team and communications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead worship during Sunday morning services, holiday services, and special events.
• Collaborate with other ministry areas to coordinate musical programming for events such as weddings, funerals, and family ministry activities.
• Evaluate, develop, direct, and disciple a volunteer worship team.
• Work closely with the lead pastor to plan weekly services, including the order of service, song selection, videos, etc.
• Oversee the creative media coordinator and the communications coordinator to support and provide direction to audio/visual teams and social media, and to ensure clear communication across all platforms.
• Plan, prepare, and lead worship team/band practices.

Required Qualifications:

• Personal, active, and growing relationship with God.
• Demonstrated musical talent (vocally and/or instrumentally).
• Experience leading worship in a church setting.
• Ability to lead a team of volunteer musicians, vocalists, and bands.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Willingness to become a faithful member of Mission Church.
• Basic familiarity with audio/visual systems or willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Music, Worship, or Ministry.
• 3-5 years of experience in music leadership in a church setting.
• Proficiency with Planning Center.
• Experience with livestream production or advanced audio/video systems.
• Demonstrated ability to arrange music, direct bands, or mentor musicians at a high level.

Salary Range: $44,500 – $54,500
