Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Cardiac Telemetry unit, requiring a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and the ability to manage high patient turnover on night shifts.
Details
- Hospital-based Cardiac Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
- Patient population includes stable pre/post care for pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac catheterization, TR bands, unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, new CVA/TIA, and post uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular procedures
- Unit also cares for COVID-positive patients on opti-flow and BiPAP during surge periods
- Patient ratio is 1:5–6; candidates must be comfortable managing up to 6 patients
- Unit typically turns over 78–90 patients per week, requiring comfort with high patient throughput
- Special equipment includes telemetry, pulse oximetry, high-flow O2 (stable), non-rebreather mask (palliative only), and BiPAP (chronic use only)
- Medications include cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone, and others; titration of Cardizem drips is required
- EMR/systems: Epic (Dimensions), Pyxis (medication dispensing), and SBAR communication
- Schedule: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- Every other weekend required, plus 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays within each 6-week period
- On-call is required; frequency depends on patient census
- Floating is required
- Self-scheduling is available within unit guidelines and leadership oversight; block scheduling is not permitted
- Contract lengths of 13–26 weeks are accepted; 36 hours per week can be offered
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a relevant cardiac telemetry setting
- Experience with IV insertion, telemetry monitoring, cardiac drips, and PCI care
- Proficiency with pre and post procedure cardiac patient care
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone)
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but required before start)
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
- Orientation is 36 hours; candidates must be available every day during the first week for hospital orientation
- Approximately 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are required and must be completed annually
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- No time off (RTO) is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; RTO requests beyond 7 days require facility approval and may not be worked out onsite
- Previous permanent, PRN, or per diem employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Travel pairs are permitted, though each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Scrub colors: navy blue or white scrubs, or a combination; Novant t-shirts are permitted; jackets must match uniform color and material (no fleece); no Crocs with holes
- A team lead is available on the unit to assist with admissions and discharges
