Multi-Craft Industrial Maintenance Technician (PLC & Hydraulics)

Frito-Lay
Charlotte, NC

Benefits Day 1

Step into a full-time, experienced role where your hands-on skill keeps a major food manufacturing operation running. As a Multi-Craft Industrial Maintenance Technician, you’ll blend electrical and mechanical expertise to diagnose, repair, and improve complex production equipment across our large Frito-Lay facility.

A day in the life

You begin by reviewing assigned work in our computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), planning parts and documenting previous work. On the floor, you might troubleshoot a conveyor drive, rebuild a centrifugal or positive displacement pump, swap a gearbox, repair a control valve, or chase down a tricky fault in an AC/DC circuit. When a line goes down, you’ll read schematics, test with a Volt-Ohm meter, amp meter, and megohmmeter, and quickly restore operation. You’ll also lend your expertise to newer techs, sharing best practices in industrial motor control and PLCs to reduce repeat issues.

What you’ll handle

  • Diagnose, repair, and install pneumatic and hydraulic systems, motors, gearboxes, control valves, pumps, and conveyor systems.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting on AC/DC systems; interpret schematics and safely work around high voltage.
  • Utilize industrial PLC knowledge to investigate I/O, sensors, and control problems.
  • Document work orders and manage parts using CMMS for traceability and uptime improvement.
  • Fabricate and machine parts as needed: operate a lathe and vertical mill; perform TIG and stick welding; use a cutting torch safely.
  • Respond to maintenance calls, sometimes completing a repair already in progress, to maximize equipment efficiency and reliability.

Where you’ll work

Our manufacturing spaces are big and can be loud. Temperatures vary with the seasons due to limited climate control in certain areas. Work assignments change daily based on operational priorities.

Who thrives here

  • Collaborators who enjoy mentoring entry-level mechanics on difficult repairs.
  • Calm problem-solvers who work with urgency under pressure to get lines back up.
  • Proactive technicians who create short- and long-term repair plans after machine inspections.
  • Safety-first professionals who follow procedures to protect people, equipment, and product quality.

Minimum qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Willing to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Lift 15–50 lbs with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Stand and walk for long periods with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Climb, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and stretch for extended periods with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Comfortable working around loud/hazardous equipment, slippery surfaces, and extreme temperatures/humidity.

  • Associate’s degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
