- Position Summary:*The University of North Carolina Asheville Department of Art & Art History invites applications for a two-year Lecturer position in Art History to begin Fall 2026. The program invites postdoctoral candidates seeking a faculty position at a liberal arts institution who have a strong desire to provide excellence in undergraduate teaching. The new faculty member in Art History must have a terminal degree (Ph.D.) with a specialty in Caribbean and Latin American Art History. Preference will be given to those who can also teach courses that explore the history of global visual arts through various theoretical frameworks. This faculty member will be expected to teach both surveys of World Art and advanced courses in their field of expertise, as well as contribute to the University's Core Curriculum, including courses in Liberal Arts Foundations, Disciplinary Foundations, and Interdisciplinary Intensives. In addition to teaching duties, the Department seeks an active teacher-scholar with a dynamic research and scholarship agenda, including publications, conference presentations, and an interest in developing original research in their area of expertise. This new faculty member in Art History will collaborate with other faculty members in Art History to deliver courses within the curriculum. The initial appointment for this position will be for a period of two years. Additional appointments are possible but not guaranteed and depend on the lecturer's performance, the availability of positions and budget, and student demand for the courses taught. Over 67% of our students graduate each year having been engaged in this important learning experience and the University embraces the mentoring of undergraduate research as one of the highest forms of teaching. This commitment makes it essential for all faculty to be engaged in the current trends of their disciplines and this is demonstrated in the outstanding research and scholarship produced by the faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 3-4 courses (12 contact hours) per semester, engage in service to the institution, the community and the profession, and ideally work with our students in some area of the discipline specific to their expertise.
