ICC Inspector — North Carolina Market
ABOUT INSPECTED
Inspected is a fast-growing, tech-enabled construction technology company revolutionizing remote inspections and permitting for the construction industry. We serve homebuilders, HVAC, solar, roofing, pool, and commercial and residential contractors across Florida, Texas, Tennessee, and North Carolina — with additional markets launching soon.
Our proprietary platform, Permit Hub, is transforming a process that once took months into one that takes days. Inspected has performed over 250,000 remote inspections and is one of South Florida's fastest-growing companies, with 100% growth for three consecutive years. This is a high-energy, high-growth environment where every team member makes a real and visible impact.
POSITION SUMMARY
Inspected is expanding into North Carolina and is seeking qualified Building Inspectors to perform field inspections of residential and commercial construction for compliance with the North Carolina State Building Code, approved plans, and applicable jurisdictional requirements.
This is a field-based remote role — you work from within North Carolina, travel to assigned inspection sites, and document and upload your results through Permit Hub, our proprietary electronic inspection platform. As one of our first NC team members, you will play a direct role in establishing Inspected's presence and reputation in the state — working closely with our anchor Inspector, Charles Myers, who brings extensive prior NC inspection experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform building inspections within your valid North Carolina COQB certification type, level, and approved jurisdictional authority
- Compare installed work with approved plans, specifications, manufacturer instructions, and applicable North Carolina State Building Code requirements
- Inspect foundations, framing, structural components, fire-resistance features, means of egress, accessibility elements, weather protection, and other assigned building components
- Apply the occupancy, floor-area, and story limitations associated with your Building Inspector Level (I, II, or III); accept Level III assignments only when properly certified
- Prepare complete electronic inspection reports in Permit Hub with clear results, applicable code references, notes, and supporting photographs
- Identify unsafe conditions and code deficiencies; communicate required corrections clearly and professionally to contractors, owners, and project representatives
- Coordinate scheduling, site access, reinspections, and closeout activities with internal Inspected teams and jurisdictional contacts
- Assist with jurisdiction-specific registration and approval requirements as Inspected activates North Carolina municipalities
- Maintain inspection records, credentials, training documentation, and jurisdiction registrations in current status
- Follow Inspected quality-control, safety, confidentiality, and escalation procedures
- Participate in continuing education and code-update training required to maintain COQB certification and job proficiency
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Required
- Current North Carolina COQB Building Inspector certificate at Level I, II, or III — or eligibility for a probationary certificate under an approved jurisdictional arrangement
- High school diploma or recognized equivalency
- Successful completion of the COQB Law and Administration course and the applicable Building Standard Inspection course and examination, unless a valid exemption applies
- Relevant education and experience meeting 11 NCAC 08 .0706 for the certification level held or sought
- Practical knowledge of building construction methods, approved plans, inspection procedures, and the North Carolina State Building Code
- Valid North Carolina driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the assigned NC service area
- Ability to use a smartphone, tablet, Permit Hub, email, and electronic document systems (training provided)
- Strong judgment, attention to detail, time management, and professional communication skills
- Ability to pass applicable background checks and municipality registration requirements
Preferred
- North Carolina COQB Building Inspector Level III certification — strongly preferred
- Additional North Carolina COQB certifications in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or fire prevention
- ICC inspector certifications in applicable disciplines — in addition to COQB credentials
- Experience conducting residential and commercial inspections for a North Carolina city, county, state agency, or authorized inspection program
- Familiarity with multiple NC jurisdictions, locally adopted amendments, and municipal inspection procedures
- Experience using electronic inspection and reporting platforms
- Construction, supervisory, contractor, architecture, or engineering experience on buildings comparable to the assigned level
FIELD & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Regularly enter active construction sites and work indoors and outdoors in varying North Carolina weather conditions
- Walk over uneven surfaces; climb stairs and ladders; bend, kneel, crouch, and access confined or elevated areas when safe and required
- Read plans and inspection instruments and carry ordinary field equipment
- Use required personal protective equipment and comply with all site-safety rules
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform essential functions
COQB CERTIFICATION & AUTHORITY NOTICE
North Carolina Building Code Inspectors perform duties as Code Enforcement Officials for authorized jurisdictions. A probationary certificate is limited to its approved type, level, location, and term. COQB prequalification does not become a standard inspection certificate until applicable employment or jurisdictional requirements are satisfied. Assignments through Inspected will never exceed the inspector's valid COQB authority. Inspectors are responsible for maintaining all credentials in active and current status throughout employment.
