Job Purpose
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented System and Software Engineering Intern to join our engineering team for the summer. The intern will contribute to software development activities, assist with verification and validation tasks, support the creation and refinement of technical documentation, and provide hands-on help in the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) verification process for our products.
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the full product development lifecycle in a dynamic engineering environment while working alongside experienced professionals in the Core Products group within Commercial Vehicle (CV) Product Development.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development
- Assist in designing, implementing, and testing software features under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
Verification & Validation
- Perform software verification tasks including unit testing, functional testing, integration testing, and regression testing.
- Support the development and execution of test cases, test scripts, and test plans.
Technical Documentation
- Assist in creating, updating, and organizing engineering documentation, including specifications, verification plans, user manuals, and technical reports.
- Ensure documentation aligns with internal processes and regulatory standards.
Certification Support
- Collaborate with engineers to prepare materials required for UL compliance and certification processes.
- Support pre-compliance testing, risk assessments, and design reviews.
- Help track UL requirements, test results, and documentation needed for certification submissions.
What we are looking for
Required
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., C, C++, Python, C#). MATLAB/Simulink preferred.
- Basic understanding of software development methodologies and testing principles.
- Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience with embedded systems, firmware development, or hardware‑software interaction.
- Exposure to automated testing frameworks or CI/CD tools.
- Interest in regulatory compliance, safety standards, or certification processes (UL, CE, FCC, etc.).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, or system diagrams.
