Applications Engineer

About the Role:
US Conec is seeking a skilled and customer-focused Applications Engineer to support the development and deployment of fiber optic connectivity solutions. This role is ideal for professionals with a background in mechanical, electrical, or optical engineering and experience working with fiber optic connectors, cable assemblies, or termination processes. You will work closely with customers, sales teams, and R&D to drive product adoption, provide hands-on support, and ensure technical success from concept through commercialization.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to customers on fiber optic connector assembly, product applications, and performance issues
- Collaborate with customers, sales, and engineering teams to develop and implement new products and processes
- Design experiments and create test plans for root-cause analysis, product validation, and process improvement
- Participate in new product introductions by advising on connector configurations, documenting results, and supporting industrialization
- Lead or support internal Applications Engineering projects that improve systems, efficiency, or technical capability
- Represent US Conec in industry organizations, technical conferences, and webinars
- Maintain and manage project schedules and provide regular updates through written reports and meetings
- Analyze data from optical tests and mechanical measurements using statistical and visualization tools
Tools and Technologies Used:
- Optical test equipment, fiber termination tools, microscopes, environmental chambers
- Vision measurement systems and contact gauges (e.g., calipers, micrometers)
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Data analysis software (e.g., JMP, MATLAB, Minitab)
- ERP and project collaboration tools
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Optical Engineering (required)
- 5+ years of experience in the fiber optics, cable, or connectivity industry (preferred)
- Strong technical understanding of fiber optic connector systems, optical performance, and mechanical design principles
- Experience supporting customers and working in cross-functional teams (required)
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
- Strong time management and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in engineering statistics and data analysis
- Demonstrated ability to plan experiments, interpret results, and draw actionable conclusions
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
