Architectural Wood Finishing Specialist

A day in this role

When you arrive, you review finish schedules, shop drawings, and work orders to plan your sequence. You prep architectural millwork and commercial wood components by sanding, filling, masking, and cleaning. With samples and specifications in hand, you mix and match stains and finishes until the color and sheen are just right. You move to the booth to apply stains, paints, lacquers, sealers, and protective topcoats using spray equipment and hand tools, keeping application consistent across multiple pieces. Between passes, you monitor ventilation, chemicals, and PPE to maintain a safe environment.

Before pieces leave your area, you inspect for defects, color uniformity, and overall quality, performing touch-ups as needed. You keep finishing equipment, spray booths, and work areas organized and maintained. Throughout the day, you coordinate with production teammates to hit project milestones and deliverables.

Core responsibilities

• Prepare wood and other substrates: sand, fill, mask, and clean surfaces
• Apply stains, paints, lacquers, sealers, and protective coatings with spray systems and hand tools
• Mix and color-match finishes to approved samples and project specs
• Inspect completed work for quality and color consistency; perform precise touch-ups
• Read and interpret shop drawings, finish schedules, and work orders
• Maintain spray booths, finishing equipment, and work areas in clean, safe condition
• Follow safety procedures related to chemicals, ventilation, and required PPE
• Collaborate with production to meet timelines and quality goals

What you bring

• 2+ years in commercial millwork, cabinetmaking, or woodworking finishing (preferred)
• Deep knowledge of stains, paints, lacquers, and finishing methods
• Hands-on experience with spray guns, sanders, and finishing equipment
• Proven ability to color match and maintain consistent results across multiple components
• Exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship
• Comfort lifting materials, standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive tasks
• Reliable, punctual, and effective in a fast-paced shop setting

Schedule and pay

Monday–Friday, 1st shift. Pay: $19–$22 per hour, depending on experience.
