Lead Electrician
Lead Electrician (Commercial / Industrial) Position Summary
The Lead Electrician is responsible for leading a small crew of electricians and assigned staff on commercial and industrial projects. This role performs advanced electrical work while coordinating daily jobsite activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans, schedules, and company standards. The Lead Electrician serves as the primary field point of contact with the Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and instruct a crew in the layout, installation, and connection of electrical systems
- Assign daily tasks and ensure crews remain productive and compliant with company policies
- Lead by example in workmanship, safety, professionalism, and work ethic
Electrical Installation & Trade Work
- Install and connect wiring, conduit, cables, fixtures, and electrical equipment per drawings and specifications
- Perform complex electrical work related to new construction, maintenance, or repairs
- Layout and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and rooftops as required
Communication & Coordination
- Communicate daily with the Project Manager regarding progress, issues, and jobsite needs
- Report any deviations from plans before work is performed
- Coordinate with general contractors, customers, and other trades on scheduling and sequencing
Materials, Manpower & Reporting
- Maintain and submit material lists with adequate lead time (typically 24 hours)
- Notify Project Manager of manpower changes or jobsite staffing needs
- Complete and submit timesheets by Monday morning; approve crew timesheets
Safety & Jobsite Standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
- Adhere to all company policies and OSHA safety requirements
- Participate in jobsite hazard analysis and report safety concerns immediately
Company Representation
- Represent the company in a professional manner at all times
- Maintain company vehicles and notify management of maintenance needs
- Assist in meeting or exceeding labor and material budgets
Qualifications
- Licensed Electrician or 3–7 years of relevant electrical experience
- Commercial and/or industrial electrical experience required
- Proven experience leading crews in the field
- Familiarity working on multi-million dollar projects
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical drawings
- Strong knowledge of electrical tools, equipment, and safety procedures
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
- Personal tools as required by company policy
