Education/Experience

  1. High school or equivalent preferred.
  2. On-the-job training provided.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Assist in serving meals as necessary and on a timely basis.
  2. Assist in daily or scheduled cleaning, including garbage/trash removal and maintaining work area in a clean manner.
  3. Set up trays, food carts, dining room, etc., as directed.
  4. Assist Cook as necessary.
  5. Work as a cook when required and as directed.
  6. Prepare food and supplies for next meal.
  7. Assist in checking diet trays before distribution.
  8. Perform dish washing/cleaning procedures.
  9. Assure that utensils, etc., are readily available for the next meal.
  10. Prepare and deliver snacks, etc., as instructed.
  11. Assist in inventory and storing of food, supplies, etc., and maintain food areas in a clean and properly arranged manner at all times.
  12. Assist in food preparation for special events.
  13. Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  14. Make only authorized food substitutions.
  15. Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor, to include any special projects.
  16. Maintain punctual and regular attendance on the job site.
  17. Ability to handle reasonably necessary stress.
  18. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with staff, resident/patients, and visitors.
  19. Remain alert and awake on the job.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure that department is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  2. Participate in staff development programs and staff meetings.
  3. Carry out assignments in a prompt and efficient manner.
  4. Report immediately any work-related injury, occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemical to the supervisor.
  5. Follow established infection control procedures when performing duties.
  6. Report immediately all grievances and complaints, all allegations of resident/patient abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of resident/patient property, all incidents/accidents, no matter how minor, all unsafe/hazardous conditions or defective equipment, either by resident/patients or family to supervisor.
  7. Notify supervisor of equipment and supply needs.
  8. Maintain confidentiality of resident/patient and company information.
  9. Treat all resident/patients fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  10. Comply with policies and procedures.
  11. Adhere to work assignments.
  12. Adhere to dress code.

Specific Requirements

  1. Must be able to read and write the English language.
  2. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
  3. Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  4. Must possess flexibility.
  5. Must demonstrate sensitivity to the special needs of resident/patients.

Working Conditions

  1. Subject to frequent interruptions.
  2. Subject to being involved with resident/patients, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  3. Subject to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  4. Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
  5. Subject to hostile and emotionally upset resident/patients, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  6. Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
  7. Subject to handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  8. Subject to working around resident/patients’ pets (animals).

Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions

  1. Must be able to move about consistently throughout the workday.
  2. Must be able to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the workday.
  3. Must be able to walk/stand 75% of the day.
  4. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry up to 50 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
  5. Must be able to push, pull, or move a minimum of 100 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
