Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week (occasional weekend and alternate hours)

The Public Health Nurse II will provide program / client services in Communicable Disease (CD) areas which include communicable disease follow-up, community education and outreach, HIV testing and counseling, immunizations, international travel consultations, outbreak management, and tuberculosis using federal, state, and local laws to support public health intervention and practice.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform the investigation and follow-up of Hepatitis B and other communicable diseases, and input information into NCEDSS
- Evaluate immunization records and administer vaccines as indicated/needed per standing orders, in conjunction with CDC, NCDPH guidelines, and NC Administrative Codes.
- Perform TB testing and interpret PPD readings
- Schedule, evaluate, and administer immunizations and destination information for those traveling outside the country through the International Travel Program
- Conduct communicable disease identification through specimen collection, testing, and referrals
- Provide HIV testing and counseling to clients
- Answer telephone calls from patients with questions and concerns, and provide information when necessary to ascertain patient's needs are met
Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred. Public health clinical rotation and previous public health or communicable disease experience strongly preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
License: Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Valid NC driver's license. Non-BSN nurses must also complete the introduction to Public Health Nursing course within the first six months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of all aspects of the law surrounding immunization and communicable disease reporting enforcement responsibilities
- Knowledge of public health concepts, nursing theory and practices, general medicine, and programmatic requirements of funding sources
- Knowledge of administrative responsibilities of the public health nurse role
- Must be extremely flexible, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and possess good decision-making skills
- Ability to secure cooperation of clients, to elicit needed information, and to maintain effective working relationships
- Accurately record services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports and medical instructions
