Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting

A growing insurance organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to support its accounting and reporting function. This role will work closely with leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, and contribute to ongoing process improvements within a dynamic and evolving environment.

Position Overview

This position plays a key role in preparing and analyzing financial results across multiple insurance-related entities. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of both U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles, along with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, detail-oriented setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting standards for multiple entities
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• Record journal entries and perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations
• Maintain and enhance internal controls to support accurate financial reporting
• Partner with external auditors and assist with annual audits and regulatory examinations
• Analyze financial results, including variance and trend analysis, and provide insights to management
• Assist with ad hoc reporting, technical accounting research, and special projects

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 3 years of accounting experience, preferably within insurance or financial services
• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP; exposure to statutory accounting is strongly preferred
• Experience preparing financial statements and performing reconciliations
• Proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar)
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities

Preferred Experience

• Experience with life or health insurance accounting
• Exposure to statutory reporting and regulatory filings (e.g., annual statement reporting)
• Familiarity with evolving accounting standards impacting insurance entities
