Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education starting August 10, 2026.
Applications must be made electronically at https://jobs.uncc.edu (position number: 006601) and must include a letter of interest that addresses the requirements for the position; a curriculum vitae; a statement of research plans (part of which must be a statement indicating previous experience); a statement of teaching experience, philosophy, and interests; copies (either official or unofficial) of graduate transcripts; and contact information for at least three (3) professional references (at least one of the referees should address the teaching experience of the candidate). Evaluations of applications will commence on February 15, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled.
Required Qualifications:
● A doctoral degree in mathematics education, or equivalent
● At least 18 hours of graduate mathematics or statistics content coursework, or equivalent
● Demonstrated expertise in mathematics education
● A commitment to establishing a productive, externally funded research program
● A commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels to a student body with varied backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
● K-16 teaching experience or equivalent teaching experience
● Evidence of potential to obtain external funding
Responsibilities:
● Establish and maintain an active research program in mathematics education
● Seek external funding
● Teach undergraduate courses for K-12 pre-service teachers, especially methods courses for middle and secondary pre-service teachers
● Support the Math Pathways initiative
● Teach graduate courses for the master’s and doctoral students
● Provide service to the department, the university, and the profession
