Supervising Attorney

Legal Aid of Western Missouri (LAWMO) is seeking a Supervising Attorney for our Municipal office in Kansas City, Missouri. The Supervising Attorney will support the Managing Attorney and help to supervise the office’s staff of eleven attorneys, paralegals, and support staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Consistent, regular presence in Kansas City Municipal Court
- Perform all administrative duties required to support the Managing Attorney in supervising and evaluating all staff within the office.
- Supervise and evaluate all legal case review procedures along with adherence to regulatory and grant requirements to ensure quality of all legal work.
- Provide substantive and strategic leadership to the team on complex legal questions, case theory, and litigation strategy.
- Support the professional growth of team members through regular feedback, mentorship, and identification of training and development opportunities.
- Monitor and assure staff follow case acceptance and program priorities/policies as established and approved by the Board of Trustees.
- Review all cases in a timely manner prior to closing.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
The qualified candidate must have the following: Super
- Active Missouri Bar license or eligible for licensure in Missouri through reciprocity.
- Minimum of seven years of legal experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively across diverse backgrounds and perspectives
- Demonstrated track record of high-quality legal representation, with an innovative and client-centered approach to advocacy that goes above and beyond to achieve meaningful outcomes for clients
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory experience
- Courtroom experience, particularly in a fast-paced setting
- Experience handling municipal cases
- Ability to speak a second language
Location
This role is an in-person role based in Legal Aid's Municipal office. Regular in-office attendance is the expectation for this role, and Legal Aid offers flexible work arrangements to support employees in maintaining schedules that enable them to perform at their best
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $84,000 - $121,000 on Legal Aid’s formal salary scale. Placement on the range will be based on factors such as years of relevant experience, budget, and internal equity. Employees who demonstrate fluency in a second language are eligible for an annual salary supplement of $3,600.
