**Job Summary:**
The Animal Technician will perform daily laboratory animal care responsibilities, including health monitoring, husbandry, routine cleaning, and sanitation. All tasks must be completed in accordance with SOPs and protocol instructions. The ideal candidate maintains positive working relationships, communicates effectively, works independently, and demonstrates consistent, reliable attendance.
**Essential Duties & Responsibilities:**
+ Perform animal husbandry tasks to maintain the health and welfare of research animals, including daily feed, water, enrichment, and cage or room cleaning as required.
+ Maintain a strong focus on animal welfare and promptly report all concerns to management as needed.
+ Ensure compliance with animal welfare standards, facility cleanliness, and equipment maintenance to support internal IACUC inspections and maintain AAALAC accreditation.
+ Conduct euthanasia in accordance with AVMA guidelines and complete all associated documentation.
+ Clean assigned animal rooms, isolators, equipment, and facility areas daily.
+ Maintain orderly and sanitized facility areas at all times.
+ Assist with inventory management, stocking supplies, and notifying leadership when ordering is required.
+ Maintain accurate and detailed records.
+ Assist with animal handling and manipulations per SOPs and protocol instructions.
+ Operate equipment and handle supplies according to safety guidelines; follow all safety and housekeeping procedures.
+ Observe and report equipment failures or malfunctions.
+ Maintain reliable attendance and follow required staffing schedules, including rotating weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required based on workload.
+ Take initiative in completing tasks and proactively anticipate upcoming responsibilities.
+ Strictly adhere to non-contamination and biocontainment procedures.
+ Work conscientiously, with attention to detail, strong self-motivation, and the ability to work independently.
+ Maintain collaborative, professional relationships with colleagues.
+ Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
**Job Qualifications:**
+ **Education:** AA degree required
+ **Experience:** Laboratory animal or agricultural experience preferred
**Physical & Environmental Requirements:**
+ Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, roll heavy objects, and use ladders.
+ Ability to work in environments ranging from freezing temperatures to 90°F.
+ Ability to stand for long periods; squat, bend, stoop, twist, and perform repetitive motions.
+ Adequate manual dexterity and visual acuity are required.
+ Exposure to odors, dust, aerosols, animal dander, and noise.
+ Personal ownership of poultry or swine is not permitted.
+ Multiple daily showers may be required for biocontainment; hair must be fully contained within a hairnet.
+ Fingernails must be kept short for safety and fine motor tasks.
+ PPE such as Tyvek suits, hairnets, respirators/PAPRs, gloves, safety glasses, uniforms, and work shoes will be required.
+ Personal phones and all forms of jewelry are prohibited in the vivarium.

**Pay Details:** $19.00 to $21.30 per hour
