Basic Job Functions: Nucor Steel Lexington is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Industrial Automation Engineer. Duties include:
- Design, implement, and configure advanced autonomous control systems for overhead cranes and material handling equipment using PLC and HMI platforms.
- Upgrade legacy machinery to modern control platforms, and enhance existing manufacturing lines.
- Perform deep analysis of failures in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and evaluation of feasible solutions, including modifications in control logic.
- Develop control systems in programmable logic controller (PLC)/Human-Machine Interface (HMI) platforms, including Allen-Bradley and Siemens.
- Implement industrial process automation networking to link equipment and devices for data communication and control (ie, Ethernet IP, Profinet, Modbus, Profibus).
- Increase efficiency within level 1 automation systems and ensure the optimum performance of equipment for plant operations through continual improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance and Production teams to optimize the Rolling Mill processes and develop/implement future improvement plans.
- Troubleshoot and modify level 1 systems, including PLCs, HMIs, industrial communication networks, distributed remote I/O, drives and motor controls, hydraulic controls, etc.
- Develop innovative Python models to solve complex automation process challenges and deliver high-end solutions, including building neural networks to identify and segregate scrap types.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and utilize Windows Operating Systems, Networking, virtualization, and Databases for Control System Applications.
- Install, maintain, and deploy L2 systems utilizing Database Engines such as MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Redis, MariaDB, Cassandra, or MongoDB for storing structured data for processes, operations, and advanced computing algorithms.
- Provide control loop analysis and performance tuning for process optimization.
- Monitor or calibrate automated systems, industrial control systems, or system components to maximize efficiency of production.
- Research and design automation technology to track tasks and expenses in project management, scheduling and planning.
- Promote a safe attitude for the development and implementation of electronic control systems for mechanical systems.
- Support the team in making technical decisions regarding improvements to the line.
- Must have a Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Automation, or Information Systems Engineering and five (5) years of experience in automation engineering optimizing steel processes and machinery.
- Experience must include:
