Wake County Camp Coordinator
The Wake Camp Coordinator is an important member of our field team. They help create and manage magical and impactful day camps for children ages 5-12 year olds and teens 13-17 years old. The Wake Camp Coordinator works in the field throughout our summer camp season which runs mid-May through the end of August. This summer position assists with the day-to-day operations of our camp location including mentoring 10-20 staff members, managing our CIT program, and supporting multiple camper groups.
Camp Coordinators are expected to :
- CREATE and run high-quality, exciting, nature-based activities including games, hikes, skill-based activities, river and creek explorations, and more, in partnership with Site Manager. May manage programs when the Site Manager is unavailable.
- PREPARE for daily programs by setting up and breaking down program areas, and cleaning and maintaining program spaces. Assist with the logistics of camp running smoothly with staff schedules, camp supplies, and activity schedules.
- MODEL Schoolhouse values like kindness, curiosity, and empathy. Patiently process conflict and disagreements. Safeguard the physical, emotional, and intellectual safety of participants.
- COMMUNICATE with participants, their families, other Schoolhouse staff, and park partners by creating established lines of communication built on trust and empathy.
- PARTICIPATE alongside campers and deliver consistent and exceptional supervision. Play the games, sing the songs, wade in the river, hide in the leaves, build forts, and enthusiastically join in on all aspects of our programs.
- LEAD our CIT program to mentor and support counselors-in-training. Stay on schedule, manage your time, create a culture of physical and emotional safety.
This position begins mid-May and runs through late-August.
The work of the Wake Camp Coordinator is often performed at the Wake County location with remote work possible when programs are not in session. The Wake Camp Coordinator may work at our Durham, Orange, and Wake locations depending on programs in session.
Hours are dependent on organizational needs. Hours typically total between 40 hours and 50 hours per week and range from 7:30a – 6p Monday through Friday. Any hours worked beyond 45 during any single week will be classified as overtime. Occasional weekends and/or evenings may be required.

Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old by start date
- Have one year of relevant experience working with children
- Enthusiasm for the outdoors, fun, and creative activities
- Ability to work as part of a team
We require current pediatric and adult CPR and First Aid certification by the first day of work. We accept certifications from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI).
