Job Summary: A Senior Vehicle Architecture Consultant - Heavy Duty Trucks job in Greensboro, NC is currently accepting applications. This is a four-month consulting assignment with a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer. In this role, you will lead an engineering pre-study focused on evaluating how an existing advanced vehicle architecture can be optimized, reused, and expanded across future heavy-duty conventional and cab-over truck platforms. You will provide strategic engineering recommendations that reduce development risk, improve scalability, and accelerate time-to-market for future vehicle programs. To be considered for this opportunity, you should have extensive experience in heavy-duty vehicle architecture, systems engineering, or whole-vehicle integration, along with a strong understanding of truck platform development. Senior Vehicle Architecture Consultant Job Responsibilities:
- Lead a strategic engineering assessment of an existing heavy-duty vehicle architecture for future conventional and cab-over truck applications.
- Evaluate opportunities for architecture reuse, carry-over components, delta-part strategies, and system integration improvements.
- Analyze the impact of vehicle configuration changes on packaging, wheelbase, payload, fuel efficiency, maneuverability, and overall vehicle performance.
- Develop and compare future base vehicle configurations while recommending a scalable architecture strategy.
- Assess the feasibility of applying the architecture to cab-over truck platforms, including structural considerations, auxiliary systems, packaging, and feature integration.
- Perform sensor integration studies, including sensor placement concepts and field-of-view analysis.
- Identify technical risks, engineering assumptions, dependencies, and implementation challenges while developing mitigation strategies.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering analyses, strategic recommendations, and executive-level presentations to support leadership decision-making.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Vehicle Engineering, Platform Engineering, Systems Engineering, Product Development, and Program Management.
- Lead complex engineering initiatives while providing technical guidance and mentoring to team members when appropriate.
- Support long-term product architecture planning, manufacturing strategy, platform strategy, and product roadmap development.
- Drive engineering decisions that balance cost, complexity, performance, quality, and time-to-market objectives.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Advanced degree is a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in vehicle architecture, systems engineering, product development, or whole-vehicle integration within the heavy-duty truck industry.
- Strong understanding of conventional and cab-over commercial truck platforms.
- Experience with vehicle architecture development, carry-over planning, component reuse strategies, and delta-part analysis.
- Knowledge of vehicle packaging, structural integration, sensor placement, field-of-view analysis, and systems integration.
- Experience leading complex engineering projects from concept through strategic recommendation.
- Ability to translate technical findings into business-focused recommendations involving cost, risk, complexity, and implementation timelines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting technical recommendations to executive leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and collaborate across engineering organizations.
- Experience developing long-term product roadmaps, platform strategies, or vehicle architecture strategies is highly preferred.
- Experience within the commercial vehicle, heavy-duty truck, or automotive manufacturing industry is required.
- Previous consulting experience or leading engineering feasibility studies is a plus.
