Position Summary: At MANNA, we believe the wellness and sustainability of our staff is essential to our mission. The Director of People and Culture will work to cultivate a positive workplace that empowers our staff to find passion and fulfillment in our work. This position is responsible for the organization's work force, building and maintaining a strong culture, overseeing training and staff development activities, and leading the People and Culture department operations and team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Culture, Teamwork and Belonging
- Developing and implementing our Teamwork and Belonging strategy to ensure a positive culture that supports our mission and maintains strong morale.
- Supporting managers and employees by providing advice, counsel and decisions concerning People and Culture policies, procedures, programs, and issues.
- Overseeing and planning staff gatherings such as holiday parties, field day, special internal events, recognition of anniversaries and birthdays, and other team building events in collaboration with the People and Culture team and relevant committees.
- Conducting all employee surveys and pulse checks to inform People and Culture activities and culture development work.
Compensation, Benefits, and Recruiting and Retention:
- Leading compensation strategy, responding to wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rates, and ensuring compliance and pay equity within organization; overseeing benefit plan selection that aligns with our goals, budget and culture.
- Planning and overseeing communication strategies for all benefits offered by MANNA
- Designing and leading performance evaluation process (including check-ins, 360 reviews, and annual performance reviews).
Hiring, Recruiting and Training & Development
- Leading strategies for staff support and development, including overseeing staff development budgets and reimbursements.
- Overseeing and in collaboration with People and Culture (HR) Generalist supporting our Incentive Wage and Work Release Program including supporting participants, onboarding and offboarding participants, and managing transportation and clothing and food allowances.
- Developing and maintaining training schedules and procedures for the organization in collaboration with appropriate internal or external trainers, including trainings in the areas of safety, HR, equipment, teamwork, and others as needed.
- Overseeing hiring process, including working with People and Culture (HR) Generalist to ensure a smooth and thorough hiring and on-boarding process for all staff and working with HR Generalist to process employee terminations and conduct exit interviews.
- Assessing staff development needs for the organization and implementing a plan to address those needs
People and Culture/HR Leadership, Administration & Risk Management:
- Supervising the People and Culture (HR) Generalist and working closely with the People and Culture (HR) Generalist.
- Guiding management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing and updating policies, procedures, employee handbook, and methods and guidelines; ensuring legal compliance with all federal state, and local regulations and fit with MANNA's values.
- Preparing and monitoring People and Culture budget.
- Tracking, monitoring and/or ensuring the completion of all People and Culture/ HR matters within the organization to provide timely and satisfactory resolutions to all matters.
- Working with People and Culture (HR) Generalist and CFO to manage Payroll & Time/Attendance Systems, HRIS & all related employee documentation.
- Managing and administering Workers’ Compensation program including claims, audits, OSHA logs, and investigations.
- Act as liaison for the board for HR matters including reports, CEO performance review and other aspects as needed.
Working Conditions: Work will be performed in a typical office environment with exposure to local travel in a personal vehicle
Physical Demands: The physical demands required are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
The physical demands of this position are considered medium work. While performing job duties the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and move objects up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities require the visual acuity to operate motor vehicles; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus close visual acuity to perform activities including but not limited to preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading.
Functions also require the ability to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard, and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Travel: Routine travel may be required within the service area. Current driver’s license required; copy of current auto insurance; and clean MVR required.
Compensation and Benefits: The starting salary range for the position is between $80,937 and $97,279 annually. Schedule: Flexible schedule required, including some evening and weekends as needed. Typical schedule is Mon. – Fri. 8a – 4p with evening and weekend hours as needed. In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency or order, MANNA FoodBank is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all employees may be called upon to perform regular or emergent duties.
Requirements:Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field or a combination of education and experience.
- PHR/SHPR and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification.
- 7 or more years of experience in human resources position with progressively increasing levels of responsibility
- Extensive knowledge of HR and personnel management practices, laws, government regulations and policies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels, and a strong commitment to teamwork and equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Must have a demonstrated ability for supervising, planning and organizing the work of a team
- Strong ability to actively listen, manage challenging conversations, maintain compassion and empathy, and ask hard questions in a professional and respectful manner.
- High level of ethical behavior and confidentiality and an ability to exercise sound judgement when dealing with human resource matters.
- Must provide proof of current, valid North Carolina driver’s license with clean MVR and auto insurance
- Outstanding skills in oral and written communication, leadership, planning, organizational development
- Proficient in MS Office, HRIS programs, and payroll software
- Maintains a professional appearance at all times and represents MANNA in diverse settings
Additional Skills:
· Experience with Paylocity HRIS system is a plus
- Demonstrated high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills; close attention to detail and commitment to producing excellent work
- Communicates effectively with a diverse group of constituencies, including staff, volunteers and the public.
