Senior Account Executive - Public Utilities

THE ROLE
We are seeking a strategic Senior Account Executive to sell our client's platform to utilities that provide essential services such as electricity, water, and gas. Public utilities are locally controlled and regulated by a community through elected officials, and this role requires an understanding of that governance model, public procurement, and the political and regulatory considerations that shape utility decisions. Candidates who have sold into city government, public utilities, public utility commissions, utility boards, or who have experience working with elected officials on public outreach processes are strongly preferred.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Own a territory focused on publicly owned utilities and build a pipeline of new opportunities.
- Lead the full sales cycle: prospecting, multi-threaded discovery, tailored demos, business case development, procurement navigation, and close.
- Frame demos and discovery around utility-specific needs: rate case outreach, infrastructure and capital project engagement, service reliability communication, resilience planning, and customer service and complaints workflows.
- Show how our client supports regulatory transparency and public record needs that matter to elected officials, utility boards, general counsels, and public stakeholders.
- Map requirements to integrations, SSO, accessibility, privacy, and compliance considerations relevant to public utilities.
- Navigate municipal procurement channels, intergovernmental agreements, utility board and council review processes, and partnerships with consultants and engineering firms.
- Partner with Marketing on outreach for public utility audiences including conferences, webinars, and local government associations.
- Collaborate with Customer Success and Implementation to ensure smooth post-sale transitions, strong adoption, and measurable public value that supports renewals and expansion.
- Maintain accurate pipeline, forecasting, and activity tracking in Salesforce; meet quota and activity expectations.
- Surface product, regulatory, and use-case insights to Product and Enablement teams to improve onboarding, compliance features, and long-term value for utilities.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- 5+ years of quota-carrying SaaS enterprise sales, or equivalent public-sector vendor experience selling to municipal governments or publicly owned utilities.
- Proven success managing complex procurements and closing deals that involve elected officials, utility boards, or public hearings.
- Strong familiarity with municipal procurement practices, utility governance structures, and the public political context that often accompanies utility decisions.
- Experience engaging stakeholders across utility operations, engineering, communications, legal, finance, and elected leadership.
- Strong CRM experience, preferably Salesforce.
- Consultative seller who builds business cases that connect public engagement to regulatory, financial, and community outcomes.
- Relationship driven; you earn trust with both operational teams and elected leaders.
- Self-motivated, coachable, and collaborative across Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Marketing
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Comfortable traveling for client meetings, council or board sessions, and industry events.
