School Nurse - Public Health Nurse II

Cabarrus Health Alliance
Kannapolis, NC

Job Description

Job Description

The CHA School Health Program began as a "nurse in every public school" in 1999. We were the first county in NC to move toward this model and it has become what school administrators want, teachers expect, students need, parents demand, and what the community is accustomed to.

Benefits: The benefits package includes excellent employer paid health insurance with low out of pocket cost, retirement pension (NC Local Government Retirement System), 401(k) with match, dental, vision, life, disability, paid vacation, paid sick, 11 paid holidays, floating holiday, new hires start out with two vacation and sick days and begin accruing immediately, paid parental leave, paid volunteer hours, employee assistance program, tuition reimbursement, longevity pay, wellness allowance and more. (Benefits differ for part time employees). Prior local and state government years of service count toward calculating vacation accrual rate!

Hiring Range: Starting at $50,070.30 annually (10 months); final compensation determined by years of relevant clinical nursing experience.

Hours: 8 hours per day, 10 month position (Monday - Friday) 2026 - 2027 school year with start date of July 17

The School Nurse plays a critical role in promoting the health and well-being of students within the educational environment. • Plans and implements school management of student health needs while delegating procedures in a manner consistent with the NC Nurse Practice Act and supporting position statements
  • Facilitates health promotion and disease prevention education and activities in the school setting

Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. Degree in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation, or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). At least 2 years of clinical nursing experience required. Experience in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Emergency Department, or Home Health preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health
  • Working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to healthcare

  • Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions
