Job Description

The Master Teacher is a highly qualified, state certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. Teachers provide instruction, support, guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs. Additionally, the Lead Teacher acts as a member of the school leadership team and mentors teachers, supporting virtual academy efforts to improve student performance.

Essential Functions

  • Functions as a member of the school leadership team; manages/supervises and mentors teachers, providing coaching and formal evaluation; proactively addresses identified needs and supports student performance improvements.
  • Orients teachers, communicates requirements, sets and enforces deadlines, maintains regular office hours to support teachers and students; understands how diverse student and family characteristics impact support.
  • Learns the entire K12 curriculum for assigned grade levels and demonstrates knowledge of state standards alignment; augments course content according to policies using asynchronous and synchronous tools.
  • Takes ownership of students’ academic progress and attendance, communicates expectations, and supports homeroom teachers; establishes rapport with families and teachers, and conducts data‑driven conferences.
  • Supports teachers with curricular and instructional issues, balancing curriculum flexibility with academy policies.
  • Focuses on tasks/projects related to school operations: recruiting/interviewing teaching candidates; training new teachers; implementing evaluation processes; assisting student‑teacher matching; developing policies; acting as a curriculum expert; coordinating testing readiness; addressing attendance and progress issues; preparing reports; assisting marketing events.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with development and implementation of all policies and procedures related to teaching and learning.
  • Helps develop and implement a data‑driven program design in collaboration with K12 curriculum.
  • Collaborates with peers to provide a positive experience for students.
  • Assists with ensuring direct reports meet all standards and expectations.
  • Assists with professional development of teachers through Data‑Driven Instruction.
  • Assists with development and dissemination of best practices in the virtual school setting.
  • Plans and implements data‑driven professional learning activities.
  • Works collaboratively to achieve school performance goals.
  • Serves as liaison between parents and teachers and the administrative team.
  • Presents and leads various school department and team meetings.
  • Travels to participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Maintains records regarding students per policy and state requirements; prepares reports as directed.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field AND
  • Three (3) years of successful teaching experience including virtual teaching OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to pass required background check.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable of state and charter school law and regulations.
  • Knowledgeable of the State Performance Standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experienced in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and able to learn specific student management system(s).
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time for work as required.

Compensation & Benefits

Stride, Inc. considers education, experience, and qualifications, as well as location, work quantity, and travel when determining salary level. Offers are typically in the bottom half of the range.
