FINANCIAL ASSISTANT

Weekly Hours: 15/week. Majority on site.

Purpose:

The main purpose of the Financial Assistant is to provide financial assistance through periodic computation of the church budget as needed by the church and its staff. To be a liaison between the community and church for needs presented online, by phone, letter or in person and to help with the overall organization, communication and work of the church body.

Spiritual Qualifications:

Must have had a personal conversion experience with Christ and been baptized by immersion.
Spends time in personal worship with God.
Demonstrates a Christ-like attitude in performing all work in order to exalt our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Committed to the mission, vision and growth of Glenn View Baptist Church.
A member or regularly attends a local church of like-mindedness as Glenn View Baptist Church.

Employment Qualifications:

Proficiency in QuickBooks including data entry, end of year taxes, and checks and balances.
Preferred skills of organization, money management, and accounts payable
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, payroll, data analysis
A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent or higher degree) with a concentration in accounting from an accredited college preferred, or equivalent ministry experience in a similar role.

Working Relationships:

The Financial Assistant will report directly to the Lead Pastor of Glenn View Baptist Church.
The Financial Assistant will work in conjunction with the Budget and Finance Committee and the Church Treasurer of Glenn View Baptist Church.
The Financial Assistant will work in cooperation with ministerial staff of Glenn View Baptist Church.
The Financial Assistant will work in conjunction with the Administrative Assistant in office space usage and handling of tithes and offerings given in office.
The Financial Assistant will work with church committees and/or church members for items such as budget assessment, tithing questions or changes and ministry budget tracking.

Duties:

· Write checks and/or make online payments for all invoices / obligations / transactions which are presented for payment, if such invoices are appropriate and authorized by the proper committee and/or persons responsible for given areas according to budget guidelines. Total, balance, and file vouchers payable and invoices.

· Keep payroll records on all employees.

· Assist the Administrative Assistant in supplying the Supervise petty cash fund.

· Be of any assistance to the Audit Committee in regard to preparing the annual audit.

· Reconcile monthly bank statements.

· Provide monthly budget reports to the Church treasurer and budget and finance committee chair through email.

· Provide monthly budget numbers to the Administrative Assistant for the Church monthly newsletter.

· Cooperate with the Clerk in preparing the yearly associational letter and with the Treasurer in the annual associational financial reports.

· Assist the tellers as need arises.

· Assist in any way the Budget/Finance Committee, and Teller Committee with reports, material copies, etc.

· Prepare and deliver individual offering envelopes annually or as necessary.

· Handle receipts that might be mailed in to the church to see that they are placed where the Teller Committee can make a deposit, proper envelopes made out, etc.

· Record all individual offerings by envelopes as turned in through the Tellers Office.

· Record other gifts received throughout the week.

· Prepare stewardship statements for individuals as required by the church, showing amount of gifts, etc. These should be distributed by the church office.

Other General Qualifications and Guidelines:

Cooperate with the Lead Pastor and other staff members in promoting the entire ministry plan of Glenn View Baptist Church. This individual should be committed to the pastor’s vision and follow his leadership in reaching and discipling people and building up the Church in Christ.
Vacations will be set in accordance with the vacation policy of the church and approved by the Lead Pastor. Ministry activities outside of Glenn View Baptist Church and this job description have to be approved by the Lead Pastor.
When away, staff person will be responsible for a substitute. Staff person will get approval for the absence from the Lead Pastor and will inform the Lead Pastor of whom the substitute will be. When the absence is due to vacation, sickness, or an approved ministry activity, the church will be responsible for compensating the substitute. If the staff person is away for any other reason, the staff person will be responsible for compensating their substitute.

Financial Care:

Salary will be evaluated and determined by the Personnel Committee.
Health insurance is not provided by Glenn View Baptist Church.
