A day in the life

Partner with the manufacturing supervisor to steer daily production, balance priorities, and guide a small team. Your hands-on expertise removes sharp edges and creates uniform surface finishes on machined components using sanders, grinders, and specified hand tools. You champion correct deburring methods, uphold tight quality targets, and keep throughput on pace—all while maintaining a safe, orderly work area.

Core responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with the manufacturing supervisor to coordinate day-to-day activities and keep work moving smoothly.
• Perform complex deburring on a wide range of part geometries within defined process parameters, minimizing scrap and achieving required output.
• Plan your approach for each job: select appropriate tools and techniques; produce finishes that meet specification; reference and interpret process drawings, routings, and travelers.
• Utilize the full suite of deburring equipment and hand tools to meet daily demand and ensure 100% of parts meet or exceed expectations.
• Identify sources of defects, implement corrective actions, and verify the issue is resolved.
• Read and interpret finish specifications and engineering drawings with accuracy.
• Maintain exemplary housekeeping—sweep, organize, and keep the area clean and audit-ready.
• Advance continuous improvement (lean) initiatives as needed to boost safety, quality, and flow.
• Promote a safe workplace by identifying and addressing unsafe conditions.
• Accurately complete production documentation and shop floor data collection.
• Comply with all elements of the Quality Management System.
• Distribute workload fairly across the team and ensure jobs are completed on schedule.
• Perform additional duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

• Solid familiarity with deburring/finishing tools and precision measuring tools is a plus, not a must.
• Able to read, write, and interpret technical documentation; computer literate; capable of reading process drawings (blueprints).
• Physically capable of routine and heavy tasks, demonstrating a full range of motion.
• 3–5 years of grinding experience in precision manufacturing preferred.
• Working knowledge of GD&T.
