Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
An excellent opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support K-12 students in an educational setting. This contract position, based in Jacksonville, NC, offers a valuable chance to contribute to the learning and communication needs of diverse students throughout the school year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and staff by interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa.
- Assist in classroom settings to ensure equal access to educational content for deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
- Collaborate with educational teams to support individual student needs and adapt interpretations accordingly.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while adhering to school policies and ethical standards.
- Participate in meetings and events requiring sign language interpretation as needed.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting experience in educational environments.
- Familiarity with K-12 curriculum and terminology related to classroom instruction.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with educators and students.
- Certification or credentials in sign language interpreting preferred.
- Commitment to supporting inclusive education and fostering positive learning experiences.
Location: Jacksonville, NC
Duration: Contract for the full school year (NSY)
