Maintenance Manager
Title: Maintenance Manager
Position Summary
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations within the manufacturing and warehouse facilities to ensure safety, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency. This role combines strategic planning, leadership, hands-on technical expertise, and cross-department collaboration to maximize equipment uptime while minimizing production disruptions.
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities
Maintenance Leadership
- Lead, direct, and develop the maintenance team with a strong focus on safety, preventive maintenance execution, and high performance.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and teamwork across all shifts.
- Perform all managerial responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance management, coaching, discipline, and employee engagement.
- Provide hands-on support as needed, including assisting with changeovers, breakdowns, troubleshooting, and project execution.
- Provide regular maintenance status updates to the Director of Operations and Director of Engineering
Performance Measurement and Continuous Improvement
- Develop, track, and report maintenance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure effectiveness and performance.
- Identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions when results fall below expectations.
- Implement and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs to reduce equipment downtime, improve operational efficiency, extend asset life, and control maintenance costs.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and operational efficiency using predictive maintenance technologies, best practices, and maintenance data.
- Provide both long-term solutions and day-to-day technical support to operating teams, including troubleshooting, problem assessment, and root cause resolution.
Budget and Resource Management
- Manage and optimize the maintenance budget, including labor, spare parts, and contract services.
- Ensure maintenance spending remains within approved budgets and complies with purchasing authorization procedures.
- Ensure maintenance work is planned and scheduled in a timely manner.
- Work closely with Production to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize operational disruption.
Compliance, Safety, and Quality
- Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company safety standards, GMP, and HACCP regulations.
- Conduct regular safety and compliance audits across all shifts and address gaps as identified.
- Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with food safety and quality standards.
Engineering and Capital Project Collaboration
- Partner closely with the Engineering team on capital project implementation and post–start-up support.
- Utilize vendor documentation to develop preventive and predictive maintenance procedures for new equipment and systems.
CMMS, Inventory, and Documentation
- Ensure accurate equipment records, maintenance history, and spare parts inventory are maintained in the CMMS.
- Leverage maintenance and asset data to support continuous improvement initiatives and capital planning efforts in coordination with Engineering.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5+ years of manufacturing or industrial maintenance leadership experience required.
Technical Expertise
- Strong working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), electrical controls, kitchen, and packaging equipment.
- Advanced technical skills in high-pressure boilers, compressed air systems, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to lead resource planning in a large manufacturing environment.
- Strong CMMS expertise, including work order management, preventive and predictive maintenance, TPM, inventory control, and scheduling systems.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong leadership capabilities, including conflict resolution, facilitation, change management, decision-making, empowerment, and delegation.
- Proven ability to lead complex problem-solving and troubleshooting efforts related to high-level process issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; advanced understanding of CMMS utilization and administration.
- Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Approachable, respectful, and team-oriented leadership style that promotes positive working relationships and a productive work environment.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Office and manufacturing plant environment.
- Plant conditions may include wet or humid environments, extreme heat or cold, and work near moving mechanical parts.
- Noise levels are generally moderate but may be loud in production areas.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate verbally.
- May be required to work extended hours and weekends as business needs dictate.
Language Requirements
- English required; bilingual proficiency in Spanish is a strong plus.
