Plant Utilities Maintenance Technician — Manufacturing
Location: Rutherfordton, NC
Role snapshot
- Keep production moving by maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving plant utilities and mechanical systems.
- Partner with a skilled team to execute PMs, roll changes, and mechanical repairs while documenting work with precision.
- Support a safe, efficient operation through proactive inspections and clear shift-to-shift communication.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and repair utility systems: steam and condensate, chilled water, cooling water, hot oil, HVAC, compressed air, electrical power, and related networks.
- Perform roll replacement and set-up; complete PMs including lube-oil and hydraulic fluid drain/refills; carry out 5S and other mechanical tasks as assigned.
- Create and maintain accurate records of equipment modifications and failures.
- Assist with daily routine maintenance activities and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Inspect systems visually and via monitoring to identify failures, leaks, or abnormal conditions; report and address maintenance needs promptly.
- Share critical information with incoming/outgoing shifts to ensure operational continuity.
- Stay informed on applicable regulations and emerging technologies; attend training as appropriate.
- Support planned roll replacement with overtime when required.
Shifts
- 1st: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Mon–Fri)
- 2nd: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM (Mon–Fri)
- Weekend: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Sat–Sun)
Qualifications
- No mandatory minimum education required.
- Preferred: Associate Degree in Mechanical Technology (or related field).
- 2–3 years of experience in industrial maintenance or engineering.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing equipment and support systems.
- Proficiency in mechanical troubleshooting and use of diagnostic tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; effective teammate and communicator.
Physical requirements and work setting
- Industrial manufacturing environment with regular exposure to machinery, plant systems, and utilities.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.; frequently lift up to 75 lbs. over 8–12 hour shifts.
- Stand, walk, kneel, squat, and bend during active production support.
- Climb stairs and ladders; perform overhead and below-knee tasks.
- Push/pull toolboxes across the facility.
