Director of Spend Management
We are seeking a Director of Spend Management to join our Financial Operations team in Raleigh, NC. In this newly created, high-visibility role, you will report to the VP of Financial Operations and lead a team focused on optimizing operating expenses and overseeing the strategic sourcing organization.
You will drive sourcing and spend optimization strategies that align with organizational goals, strengthen vendor partnerships, and maximize the effectiveness of the company’s sourcing and expense management processes. This role will collaborate closely with stakeholders across all functions to ensure alignment with financial and strategic objectives.
As a key leader within Financial Operations, you will play an integral role in strategic and financial planning, analysis, and cross-functional decision support.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the optimization of processes and tools for tracking, analyzing, and controlling expenses.
Establish expense policies, streamline procedures, and ensure compliance with company guidelines across all functions.
Lead and develop a team to analyze spending patterns, identify cost-reduction opportunities, and track performance versus plan.
Develop and implement multi-year and rolling forecast processes for expenses.
Recommend annual budget targets and communicate their impact on multi-year projections.
Lead the allocation of costs across companies, products, and business activities, implementing process improvements and automation.
Oversee strategic sourcing, ensuring the effectiveness of vendor relationships.
Support compliance in the vendor selection process and drive increased supplier efficiency through benchmarking and performance measurement.
Provide leadership in vendor management, including relationship management, contract compliance, and evaluation of supplier performance.
Qualifications
10+ years of finance experience, including significant expertise in expense management.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience presenting at the executive level.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office; exposure to AI, RPA, or best-in-class cost management systems (Anaplan, OneStream, etc.) strongly preferred.
Experience with IT spend management philosophy and tools is a plus.
Inquisitive mindset with the ability to challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvement.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills across all levels of the organization.
